Dana 60

.

Building a narrow Dana 60 for this coupe project. More text and pictures to follow.

The Dana 60 looks pretty narrow. Finished axle will be 41" flange to flange. It is partially jigged up for welding. I use 1.5" cold rolled for the basic jig, and machined rings to simulate the bearings. The 55 gallon barrel/ trash can makes a pretty nice bench for working on rear axles. The brackets for the 4 link suspension had to be opened to fit over the Dana tubes. Another view of the jig and housing.

Left, Dutchman Axles. 35 spline 5 on 4.75" bolt pattern. 1/2" X 3 screw in studs from Dorman. These screw in studs are interesting but they back out of the flange sometimes when you change tires, even with loc-tite. They utilize Ford big pickup bearings. Right, new Track-Lok and some small pieces. Also there is a 4.10 Ring and Pinion.

The assembled Dana with 2.25" X 11" drum brakes. Grade 8 carrier bearing cap bolts. The Art Morrison 4 link brakets are still loose on the tubes. The chrome cover has been replaced by a finned aluminum cover left over from my 4X4 days.
